Brides International was created with the bride and her budget in mind. Every bride dreams of a gown that is hers alone, but quite often price dictates differently. Paula French was introduced to Klara Nicharova through her brother, a prominent Bulgarian businessman, and a unique partnership has evolved. Klara's factory in Assenovgrad was previously owned by her father, grandfather and great grandfather before, and they had been creating beautiful gowns for the Bulgarian aristocracy for over 100 years. Nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Rudopi Mountains, it is not difficult to see how the inspiration for our gowns comes about. Nearby are the caves where it is reputed the Seven Dwarves worked at their jewel mines and hidden just over the mountain tops, the castle which inspired the story for Sleeping Beauty.   Because of the Turkish occupation, then the Russians, and the nearby influence of the Austrians, French and Greeks, there is a mixture of enormous passion and drama, which shows in the amazing hand beading and jewel colours of the fabrics. Our seamstresses are hand-picked and amongst the best - indeed there is a waiting list to join our workforce - but this is no sweatshop! In our light, airy factory the women laugh and chatter as they work and always take their time - mistakes are harder to correct than perfect work every time. However, they are extremely proud of their skills, and often whole families are found working here, passing on their knowledge from mother to daughter, aunt to niece - and occasionally nephew or son! Everyone has knowledge of the other's department but has her own speciality, so even Paula and her husband Andy have been seen "having a go" in various departments - much to the amusement of the workforce. Vera supervises the cutting department and Diana supervises over all, and has even been known to veto some of Klara and Paula's ideas if they are totally impractical, but always coming up with a superior alternative. With matching hand made accessories designed by Nushka, headpieces, veils and bags, candle decorations and favours these are items you will not find anywhere else in the U.K We also feature other designers and always have a sample rail, where items are sold at cost.
